Hi! I'm Alexander Valentine. I'm twelve and I play the violin in The Little Maestros. Not that I'm trying to
brag or anything, but I'm first chair. Although I have to work really hard to keep it! Gert Derby makes sure of that!
Anyway, we just got back from a show in St. Charles, where we ran into some trouble with the Virtuosos (a rival
string quartet from The Dimsdee Conservatory of Music). Dexter nearly cleaned my clock, if you get my drift. We
went there to compete in the National String Quartet Competition and ended up solving a mystery involving a stolen Beethoven
symphony. WHEW! I don't mind telling you it was touch and go for a while. Unfortunately, I can't tell you any
more than that because of my pledge of silence to Madam Macaroni and my fellow Maestros. But you could always read the
book, The Case of Beethoven's Bandit, to get the whole story! Best regards.

Greetings from Shady Tree! My name is Gert Derby. What Alexander
says is true--I keep him on his toes! I'm twelve and I luv being in the Maestros! We get to travel all over the country performing
concerts and solving mysteries. Madam Macaroni is totally cool! She may seem a little wacky at times, but she is a major
sleuth! I'm the newest member of the Maestros. I've been playing the violin since I was three. My hobbies (other than music)
are skateboarding, snowboarding and riding dirt bikes. When I grow up I want to be a professional musician and play in a symphony
orchestra. Tootles!
PS. I luv to wear camouflage, and I'm two weeks older than Alexander!

Hello! My name is Gracie Bishop and I'm eleven (soon to turn twelve in November). I play viola in The
Little Maestros. The viola is in the violin family, but it's a little bigger. By the way . . . if you've heard the
rumor that I have a crush on Wallaby Pendergrope, you can forget it. He is soooo off my buddy list! Yesterday in
the lunchroom, he dipped his chocolate cookie in my mashed potatoes! What an IG-PAY! Aside from that, it's true that
I'm kind of shy. My best friend in the whole world is Mortimer, Madam's Siamese cat. Then, Gert Derby. I like Alexander, too.
Wallaby's okay when he's not picking on me. I love playing with the Maestros. It's the coolest thing that ever happened to
me. More later.
My name is Mortimer. I do not normally look this cranky. I shall not attempt to explain my precarious
position in the above illustration. You shall simply have to read the book! MEEEOOOWWW!

Wallaby Pendergrope here! I'm eleven and I play the cello. It's the second largest member of the violin family. It has
this really cool, low sound. Madam told us to write a paragraph telling our fans what it's like to be a Maestro. It's awesome!
Alexander is the greatest. Not only is he a fab violin player, but he's a top-notch detective. I'm pretty good myself.
The girls just kind of tag along. Don’t tell them I said that! Gert has a really mean elbow! Gracie doesn't think I
know it, but she sort of likes me. My favorite hobby (besides being a Maestro) is going to the roller rink. They make a really
great chocolate chugalug. Catch you on the rebound, Dudes!
I'm afraid the illustration portrays me as a bit . . . shall we say whimsical? You see, I was rather enthused
at having received Professor Podges' new symphony in the mail--and just in time for the Annual String Quartet Competition.
I had no idea that a secret message was hidden among the musical notes! Oh dear . . . I really mustn’t say more. However,
you are free to read all about it in the book, The Case of Beethoven's Bandit!
Happy Reading!
Madam Macaroni
